Refund Policy
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. This Refund Policy is designed to be fair and transparent, in compliance with Dutch consumer law and the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU).
1. Refund Window
You may request a refund within 15 days of your purchase date. This exceeds the minimum 14-day period required under EU consumer law.
2. Digital Content and Right of Withdrawal
Important notice regarding digital content: Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), as implemented in Dutch law (Article 6:230p of the Dutch Civil Code), the right of withdrawal for digital content may be waived when the consumer expressly consents to the immediate delivery of digital content and acknowledges that the right of withdrawal is lost.
When you purchase the Book, you are informed before completing the purchase that:
- The product is digital content (PDF/EPUB) that is delivered immediately
- By proceeding with the download, you expressly consent to immediate performance
- You acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once the download begins
Despite this legal provision, we offer a 15-day satisfaction guarantee for legitimate issues as described below.
3. Valid Reasons for Refund
We will process your refund if any of the following apply:
- Technical issues: You are unable to access or open the Book files due to a technical problem on our end (e.g., corrupted file, broken download link)
- Product significantly different from description: The content materially differs from what was described on the product page at the time of purchase
- Duplicate purchase: You accidentally purchased the same product twice
- Upgrade issues: You purchased a lower tier and want to upgrade; we will refund the original purchase so you can buy the higher tier
4. Non-Refundable Situations
Refunds will generally not be granted in the following cases:
- Change of mind after accessing or downloading the digital content
- Failure to read or use the Book after purchase
- Dissatisfaction with specific technical opinions, architectural choices, or code examples presented in the Book
- Inability to run code examples due to differences in your local development environment
- Purchasing the Book without reading the product description, table of contents, or sample chapter
- Refund requests made after the 15-day window has elapsed
5. How to Request a Refund
To request a refund, follow these steps:
- Send an email to support@thebackendofluck.com with the subject line "Refund Request"
- Include your order number or the email address used for the purchase
- Briefly describe the reason for your refund request
- If applicable, attach screenshots showing technical issues (corrupted files, error messages, etc.)
6. Processing Time
- Review: We will review your request and respond within 3 business days
- Approval: Once approved, the refund is initiated immediately
- Processing: Refunds are processed within 5-10 business days, depending on your payment method and financial institution
- Method: Refunds are issued to the original payment method used at the time of purchase
7. Partial Refunds for Bundles
If you purchased a bundle (e.g., Professional or Enterprise tier) and wish to downgrade:
- We may offer a partial refund equal to the price difference between your purchased tier and a lower tier
- You will retain access to the lower-tier content only
- Partial refund requests follow the same 15-day window and process described above
8. Chargebacks
We encourage you to contact us directly before initiating a chargeback with your bank or payment provider. Chargebacks incur significant fees and delay resolution. We are committed to resolving any issues fairly and promptly through direct communication.
9. Legal Framework
This Refund Policy is governed by:
- Dutch Civil Code (Burgerlijk Wetboek), specifically Book 6, Title 5, Section 2a (koop op afstand / distance selling)
- EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), in particular Articles 9-16 regarding the right of withdrawal
- Article 16(m) of the Consumer Rights Directive: Exemption for digital content where the consumer has given prior express consent and acknowledged loss of withdrawal right
Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights as a consumer under applicable law. If there is a conflict between this policy and mandatory consumer protection law, the law prevails.

- EU consumers may use the European Online Dispute Resolution platform: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr
- Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands
